DENVER
TOMCATS
|
|
drafted
|
Javid
Best (rb); Ben Tate (rb); Monteraio Hardesty (rb);
Matt Moore (qb) |
summary
|
With
most of the league looking to snatch up WR's, the
Tomcats elected not to pass up the value of the RB's
with Best, Tate, and Hardesty. If two or even one
of them become the player they have potential of being,
the Tomcats could possibly possess the league deepest
and most dangerous RB core. They needed to address
the QB situation and the selection of Matt Moore is
outstanding. Moore gives them a solid backup to Matt
Cassel and very well could be used to win some games.
I think more then any other team the Tomcats instantly
improved the most after this draft. |

MYRTLE
BEACH 328'S
|
|
drafted
|
Ryan
Mathews (rb); Jimmy Clausen (qb); Arrelious Benn (wr);
Jermaine Gresham (te); Colt McCoy (qb); Andre Brown
(rb) |
summary
|
328's
had one of their most active drafts in franchise history
and it proved a successful one. The strategy appears
to have been to take the best available player. While
it is debatable as to which players are the "best
available" 328's drafted safe and they looked
to build depth at every position on their roster.
They also added a roster spot with a very smart two-for-one
swap with Lake Show. |

LAS
VEGAS 69ERS
|
|
drafted
|
Dez
Bryant (wr); Mike Williams (wr); John Skelton (qb);
Carlton Mitchell (wr); Aaron Hernandez (te) |
summary
|
The
69ers really upgraded the WR position with two potential
studs in Bryant (who they probably didn't expect to
be there at #3) and Williams. Skelton is a long-term
project with great upside and Hernandez is a tremendous
value pick at #46 giving giving them some nice youth
at the TE position. The 4th selection of Mitchell
is questionable only because of the teams lack of
RB depth. |

UNITED
|
|
drafted
|
Sam
Bradford (qb); Brandon LaFell (wr); Mardy Gilyard
(wr); David Buehler (k) |
summary
|
United
's pick of Bradford at #5 ended the franchises streak
of five straight drafts of selecting a RB in the 1st
Rd. In the 2nd and 3rd rounds United then took LaFell
and Gilyard, both of whom have a chance to get siginificant
playing time in their rookie seasons. For the second
straight year, they took a minimal value Kicker with
their last pick. |

A II P
|
|
drafted
|
Early
Doucet (wr); Buster Davis (wr); Arian Foster (rb) |
summary
|
A
II P used this draft to stock pile for the 2011 draft,
but they also acquired qb Matthew Stafford (in exchange
for #1 and #9 picks). Otherwise they made a nice two-for-one
deal which left them with a 5th and two 6th Rd picks
where they acquired low-salary project players that
were selected in previous drafts (Doucet and Davis).
The Mexican Seafood pick of Foster is a great value
pick and gives this team some needed RB depth. The
grade of this draft really depends of the development
of Stafford. |

OUTER
BANKS LIGHTNING
|
|
drafted
|
Golden
Tate (wr); Damian Williams (wr); Jordan Shipley (wr);
Riley Cooper (wr); Graham Gano (k) |
summary
|
Lightning
had some very specific targets and made some bold
draft picks this season. I think it will be difficult
to really rate this draft as they seemed more inclined
to build for the future but I do think it makes a
nice complement to their 2009 draft year. Many might
question Tate as too early but Lightning obviously
had him ranked as the #1 so why would they pass on
him. They did once again deal with some more salary
issues which forced them to make a two-for-one deal
of late picks. Overall, I think it was a risky draft
(maybe a bit too WR heavy?) and these players may
require patience. |

D.C.
H
|
|
drafted
|
Dexter
McCluster (wr); Taylor Price (wr); Jimmy Graham (te);
Devin Aromashodu (wr) |
summary
|
Another
team that went WR-heavy, H took WR's with three of
the four picks. They traded away a 2nd Rd Pick in
2011 for Price at #19, perhaps thinking he fell further
then he should have. The potential of these picks
is very nice but I think they may take some time.
H is incredibly deep at the WR position so they can
afford to be patient, but the more patience you use
with the roster the less likely you are to acquire
picks in future drafts. It may be a welcome problem,
but I do think this team will find some trouble release
players for free agents and/or future picks. |

LOS
ANGELES LAKE SHOW
|
|
drafted
|
Demaryius
Thomas (wr); Tim Tebow (qb); Anthony Fasano (te);
Charlie Whitehurst (qb) |
summary
|
Few
can argue Thomas was the top player on the board at
#6. Lake Show made a questionable trade up from #13
to 14 . The selection of Tebow at #14 is debatable
but Lake Show does have a roster in which he fits
(as Brady and Sanchez remain key parts of the QB depth
and future). Lake Show needed a TE for the bye weeks
and decided to pass on the rookies for a more reliable
option in Fasano. Probably a wise move but you have
to wonder if they passed on the trade and taken Tebow
at #14 and Fasano with the 4th Rd pick they traded.
That would have given them another option with the
#20 pick. |

MACUNGIE
O'S
|
|
drafted
|
CJ
Spiller (rb); Eric Decker (wr); Javon Ringer (rb) |
summary
|
Spiller is a safe value pick at #7. They traded away
the 2nd Rd pick last year for Shaun Hill who they
no longer own. They did get good value in the trade
with A II P for the top pick in the 3rd Rd where they
selected Decker (who may require some developing time).
Ringer is a very nice handcuff selection at #30. |

TOLEDO
TORMENTA
|
|
drafted
|
Ed
Dickson (te); Tony Moeaki (te); Toby Gerhart (rb) |
summary
|
Giving
up Fred Jackson for the 1st Rd pick probably stings
less after a Prestige Championship victory but it
is still a bad investment that could hurt future development
and depth. Dickson and Moeaki may have fallen further
then they should have but Tormenta has plenty of youth
and talent at that position with Vernon Davis and
John Carlson. Overall Tormenta did a nice job with
these picks but the 1st Rd for 3rd Rd value they gave
up a year ago still lingers with this draft. |
